What's new in Nadeemi
Nadeemi is a social network in public beta, in Arabic and English, with no ads, no AI features and no phone number. This page lists what changed, in plain words, newest first. We write it on the day each update goes live.
About encryption, honestly: private messages, group chats and Circles are encrypted on your device with MLS in the beta. We still label them "end-to-end encryption coming" until an independent audit is published. Public posts are encrypted in transit and at rest, and our servers can read them to show them. Details: what we can and can't see.
Update 25 (7 November 2026)
- A clearer first screen. The home page now says in one line what Nadeemi is (a social network with private chats and group chats, in Arabic and English) and what it is not (no ads, no AI features, no phone number), with a "Join free" button and a note that signing up takes about a minute with just an email. The top bar stays on one line on phones.
- A clearer sign-up page. It now explains Nadeemi for people who arrive straight from an invite or a guide, and says what happens next (fill in the form, then tap the link we email you).
- Honest sign-up counts. We now also count, without cookies or ids, how many people actually see the sign-up page for a few seconds, so we can tell where people stop.
- 3 new guides: WhatsApp "Recent media suggestions" and how to turn it off, the Android "SMS of Death" bug and WhatsApp event invites for people without WhatsApp.
Update 24 (6 November 2026)
- Link previews, made privately. When you send a public link, a small card with the title, description and image is added. Our server fetches the page for you, so the site never sees your IP address or cookies; the card travels inside your encrypted message, and the people you send it to never contact the site. Our server learns the link at that moment but does not store it. Turn it off in Settings > Link previews for links I send, or tap "No preview" for one message. How it works.
- Search all your chats from Messages. The search happens on your device, using an index stored on your device; your search and the results are never sent to us. Arabic spelling variants (hamza, taa marbuta, alef maqsura, diacritics) and Arabic-Indic digits match too.
- Fairer message-request filter. In encrypted requests, links are now found by your own device in the copy it decrypted, instead of trusting the sender's app.
- 3 new guides: link previews and privacy, WhatsApp Restricted Chat and Apple threat notifications.
Update 23 (6 November 2026)
- Scan a QR code from a photo. In Messages > Scan QR code you can now pick a saved photo or a screenshot of an invite QR code. The photo is read on your device and never uploaded.
- QR scanning on more computers. Browsers without a built-in QR reader (for example Chrome and Edge on Windows, and Firefox) can now scan with the camera too.
- A short "Try Nadeemi free" card at the end of each guide, and a slim bar on phones.
- Fairer visitor counts. A page view now counts only when the page has been open for a few seconds, so automated scripts no longer inflate our numbers.
Update 22: group chats show who is around
- In a group chat, the top line shows who is online and who is typing, by name. Everyone's own "who sees when I am online" setting is respected, and blocked people never see it.
- The group description now shows under the group name.
- Message request filters (Settings): requests that contain a link, or come from an account younger than 24 hours, can be folded away.
- Circles: "only admins can post". Members can still comment and react.
- Scan a QR code to join a group, a Circle or a person, from Messages.
Update 21: invite QR codes and message requests
- QR codes for invite links, drawn on your device (group info, and Settings > Invite).
- Group description and an "only admins can send messages" switch for announcement groups.
- A default disappearing-message timer for new chats, and disappearing posts in Circles.
- A tidy message-request inbox: you see who wrote and how many messages are waiting, but not the content until you accept. The sender is not told you opened it.
- Many small fixes for new members: the post box comes first on Home, clearer pages for accounts that are not available, and correct direction for Arabic @names.
Update 20: group names, invite links, disappearing messages
- Group admins can rename a group and set a photo.
- Invite links for group chats, with an expiry (1 hour to 30 days, or never) and a revoke button. People without an account can sign up and land straight back on the join screen.
- Disappearing messages: off, 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. The timer travels inside the encrypted chat; phones and our server delete the messages when it runs out. People can still copy or screenshot, so the app says so.
- @mentions and replies in group chats now appear in Notifications.
Update 19: better group chats
- @mentions with suggestions. A mention reaches you even in a muted group.
- A members screen: admins can add, remove, promote and demote; anyone can leave or mute.
- Pin a message, forward a message to another chat, and search inside a chat (the search runs on your device).
- On phones: press and hold for message actions, swipe to reply.
- Share your invite link in one tap, and see how many people joined with it.
Update 18: reactions, replies and photos
- Reactions, reply with a quote, edit (24 hours) and delete for everyone (48 hours). In encrypted chats our server never learns which action or emoji you used.
- Photos in chats: location and camera details are removed on your phone before the photo is encrypted and sent.
- Older messages load as you scroll up, with an "Unread messages" line.
- Grouped notifications ("Sara and 3 others liked your post").
- Online and last seen in private chats, with a setting (default: only people you both follow).
Update 17: chats that feel familiar
- Chats scroll to the newest message, the message box stays at the bottom, and on a computer Enter sends.
- Read receipts (one tick sent, two ticks seen) in private chats, with an off switch that works both ways.
- "Typing…" in chats, without storing anything.
- Explore: trending posts, tags, people and popular groups. No AI ranking: it uses likes, replies and time.
Update 16: a proper layout on computers
- A three-column layout on computers (menu, feed, and a column with search and suggestions), a slim icon rail on tablets.
- "Start here" for new members instead of an empty home: people to follow, popular groups and topics.
- Message times and day separators in chats, and Arabic digits in the Arabic interface.
Update 15: an easier sign-up
- Username and password are checked as you type, with the error under the right field.
- A clear "check your email" screen with resend and change-email buttons.
- Clearer chat headers, a delete confirmation, and loading placeholders instead of blank screens.
What is next
We are working on link previews that respect privacy, search across all your chats, and the independent security audit that comes before we drop the word "coming". Ideas and bug reports are welcome in the Nadeemi Beta Feedback group inside the app, or at info@nadeemi.com.
